Addressing the Need for Sustainable Data Management
In today’s fast-paced digital landscape, the volume of data generated continues to soar, leading to increased energy consumption, carbon emissions, and environmental impact. Traditional data management practices often exacerbate these challenges, highlighting the critical need for sustainable solutions.
The JiVS Difference
JiVS IMP stands out as a game-changer in sustainable data management, offering a comprehensive suite of features designed to minimize environmental IT footprint, including reducing CO2 emissions, while maximizing operational efficiency.
From reducing data volumes and energy consumption to ensuring legal compliance and security, JiVS IMP empowers organizations to align their data practices with their sustainability goals.
"Our decision to go with the JiVS platform has certainly paid dividends. It has helped us to transfer historical information, selectively migrate data, and decommission legacy systems – all while significantly reducing our data footprint and saving hugely on operational costs. The costs are 80% lower than they would have been if we’d had to continue running our legacy systems just to have access to our data. It's a win-win for efficiency and sustainability."

Saving Energy in IT: It´s Time to Take Action
As businesses grow and become increasingly more digitized, energy consumption across all industries has skyrocketed – and continues to do so. While fuel prices rise, companies are faced with the challenge of how to cut costs on energy consumption, with it being a matter of survival in the case of some firms. Hitting sustainability goals needs to become a priority for many businesses, with the reduction in CO2 emissions being of paramount importance.
Sustainability Gains with “Rise with SAP” and JiVS
Digitalization and sustainability are two areas that businesses around the world are dealing with on a daily basis. Data Migration International is no stranger to either of these topics and was invited along to a recent UKISUG webinar for SAP users to speak about accelerating digital transformation while ensuring ongoing sustainability in operations and data management. DMI’s Regional Director Philip Carvalho was joined by customer Urs Hutter of AXA Investment Managers Switzerland who explained the financial and sustainability gains that his organization has achieved by implementing the JiVS Information Management Platform alongside SAP.
Data Waste and How to Tackle It
In all four corners of the world, data waste in companies is a hidden problem that is simmering away and will only get worse – unless continuous action is taken to minimize it. In this blog, we look at what data waste is, how it impacts the environment, system performance, and operating costs, and what steps companies can take to reduce their own data waste.
Sustainability and Data Centers – and Unfathomable Dilemma?
Each data center needs a lot of electricity to run the machines and cool the sites. The data centers globally consumed more than 200 terawatt-hours in 2018, and the energy consumption shows a rapidly rising trend over the past decade.
I think it’s unrealistic to move the needle at a global scale, focusing on just one single enterprise-operated data center. But you can jumpstart sustainability by embedding your data center into your long-term goals to make a change and go green.
The Role of Data and Reporting in Fighting Climate Change
The 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference, or COP27 for short, took place in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, in November 2022. As the world’s eyes were on state leaders and decisions that the world’s future depends on, many discussions were taking place in parallel among businesses and organizations, highlighting critical topics and measures to support the fight against climate change.
One such discussion was between Sebastian Steinhaeuser, Chief Strategy Officer of SAP, and Lauren Kiel, General Manager of Bloomberg Green, on the subject of connected sustainability strategy. In Sebastian Steinhaeuser’s words “We all here know we are on a straight path to climate hell if we don’t act fast. It’s not about having a sustainability transformation, it’s about having sustainability – and sustainability data – being part of every business process of a company”.
What does this mean and involve? And where does JiVS fit into the picture?
