With disparate legacy systems containing information that dates back years, huge volumes of data, and endless interdependencies, upgrading to SAP S/4HANA may seem like an extremely complex task. And indeed it would be, if companies were to migrate all of their existing data – but this is not the right approach for a new system implementation. Instead, companies have an opportunity to make their migration easier by reducing the migration effort and the complexity of their data, using only the best quality data, and getting the users on board from the very start of the SAP S/4HANA journey. With these factors in mind, DMI developed JiVS IMP as way to radically simplify migration.

Reduction in Migration Workload and Data Complexity

Migration to SAP S/4HANA can involve multiple SAP and non-SAP legacy systems with complex interdependencies between master data, transaction data, and customizations. One of the keys to simplifying migration is to lower the migration workload by transferring less of the company’s historical information to the new environment.  With JiVS, the customer can define data filters, so only the data that is needed in SAP S/4HANA is actually transferred. The historical data is then extracted and stored externally on a neutral platform, along with its business context and interdependencies. This means that old records relating to long-sold parts of companies, closed business units, or more general outdated documents, for instance, can still be accessed when the company needs them. By separating the information and reducing the data complexity this way, JiVS can generally halve the migration workload for the customer.

Better Information Quality

Data quality is a major pain point with large-scale migration projects. Once the historical data has been separated from the operational data, the next step is to optimize the quality of the data required in SAP S/4HANA. If data is incorrect, the automated processes in the new environment will be prone to error, and the analysis of incorrect data can result in companies making the wrong decisions. Duplicates, incorrect data sets, incomplete and erroneous records therefore all need to be eliminated. JiVS provides a simplified approach to cleansing this data, improving its quality, and also enriching it with information from other business-relevant sources prior to harmonization. As a result, the full power of SAP S/4HANA can be harnessed by using better quality data and with none of the legacy issues inherited from the former systems.

Increased User Acceptance

User acceptance is crucial for any system migration project. Once the users are on board, the migration will be far simpler. One way to increase acceptance is by giving the users seamless, instant access to all the data they need in one place and displaying it in a consistent way. With JiVS IMP, the historical data remains accessible to the users but is displayed as though it is stored in SAP S/4HANA. Users can search for and access operational and historical information via the SAP GUI or SAP Fiori which “discretely” links to JiVS IMP.

Upgrading to SAP S/4HANA may seem daunting, but DMI has created an intelligent means of simplifying the otherwise complex data migration process. By separating the information, transferring only the operational data that’s needed to SAP S/4HANA, and making sure it’s available in the best possible quality through a single interface will pay dividends in the transformation to an intelligent enterprise.
