In our world of ever-increasing data volumes, rightsizing has become a fundamental step in the process for migrating to a new ERP system. In short, rightsizing involves optimizing the use of computer resources, and – in the context of data migration specifically – reducing the data volume to an optimal size. With JiVS IMP, companies are able to drastically reduce the volume of data that is transferred to their new system, while also benefiting from the continuous rightsizing of their information. Faster migration, lower costs, and compliance with legal regulations are some of the benefits that customers can look forward to by rightsizing their data.

A Tried and Tested Process

At the core of DMI’s successful rightsizing concept is the reduction of expanding volumes of data – a process that is divided into distinct stages. During the first stage, all the historical data and documents are extracted from the legacy system(s) together with their business context, and are stored in the data staging area before being analyzed to identify the reduction potential. This way, a company’s historical information can be reduced by a colossal 80 to 95%. Filter and transformation rules are then defined to minimize the operational data volume that is destined for the new system. Next, the massively reduced volume of information is transferred to the customer’s preferred migration and transformation tool, such as DMI, SAP, or another third-party provider.

Faster to the Cloud With Slashed Operating Costs

It goes without saying that less data volume means less migration effort. In turn, less migration effort translates into lower migration costs and lower operating costs. By minimizing the data volume that is needed in the new environment, the migration to the cloud is much faster and the system implementation time is accelerated. With continuous rightsizing established as a standard work routine, data that is no longer required at operational level is regularly moved over to JiVS, keeping the live ERP system lean and efficient. Memory storage for masses of data can be expensive and account for a large chunk of the IT budget, but continuous rightsizing helps to drive down these IT infrastructure costs.

Legally Compliant

With a data migration partner like DMI, any data and documents that aren’t migrated to the customer’s new cloud-based system are stored securely in read-only mode on JiVS. Businesses remain compliant with the all-important legal data storage requirements, by simply defining retention periods for archived data and any future data that is transferred from the cloud environment to JiVS.

The benefits of continuous rightsizing are realized throughout the entire life cycle of the data. Faster migration, lower costs, and operational efficiency all enable companies to boost productivity. As they search for ways to run their systems more efficiently while keeping an eye on overall costs, JiVS provides them with the ideal solution for rightsizing data, remaining compliant, and controlling and limiting data growth both today and in the future.
